Gatekeeper Information: FAQ

What network should I connect the gatekeeper to?
You must allocate an IP address for the gatekeeper and provide this IP address to the CENIC Network Operations Center as well as the default route and subnet mask to use. Please connect the gatekeeper to that network.

What do I do now that I've received the gatekeeper?
After the gatekeeper is installed and connected to the network, CENIC will be log onto it to complete the gatekeeper configuration. If we cannot connect to the gatekeeper, CENIC will contact you for assistance. The most likely problem is that there is a firewall in place. Any firewalls need to be configured as described in Firewall Configuration.

What name should I assign to the gatekeeper's IP address?
The CENIC NOC will assign a forward name based on the name used for your campus router. For example, if we called your campus router "hcoe," we'll call your gatekeeper "hcoe-gk.cenic.net." We will include this information when we contact you and will let you know what DNS entry to add.

What will happen next?
After we have configured the gatekeeper completely, we will contact your videoconference administrator to test videoconference functionality.

Cisco 3745 225K pps 1800 500 50 @ 768kbps
75 @ 384kbps
100 @ 128kbps

The Cisco 3745 comes with brackets for use with a 19-inch rack or, if specified in your order, optional larger brackets for use with a 23-inch rack. The dimensions of the box are 5.25" x 17.25" x 15.00" (13.3 x 43.8 x 38.1 cm), 3RU in height, and approximately 32 lbs in weight (including chassis and four network modules). Power may be AC or DC. The power requirements for AC are:

  • Input voltage, AC power supply
  • Input frequency 100 to 240 VAC, autoranging
  • Input surge current (AC) 47 to 63 Hz; 80A maximum, one cycle (-48V power module included).

The power requirements for DC are:

  • Input rating, DC power supply 48 to -60 VDC, autoranging, operational between 10A maximum -38 to -75 VDC
  • Input surge current (DC) 10A maximum 50A, <10 ms
  • Power dissipation is 230W (maximum).
  • Software: 12.3(14)T7 Cisco IOS

The Cisco 3845 comes with brackets for use with a 19-inch rack (there are optional brackets for use with a 23-inch rack that can be ordered). The dimensions of the box are 5.25" X 17.25" X 16.00", 3RU in height, and 41 lbs in weight as configured (3845 chassis, 2 power supplies, fan module, 3845 motherboard, and 1 16-port ethernet module). There are two redundant AC power supplies using NEMA L5-15P plugs. The power requirements are:

  • Input voltage: 100 to 240VAC (auto-ranging)
  • Input frequency: 47-63 Hz
  • Input current: 4A @ 110V, 2A @ 230V, startup input spike of 50A maximum (one cycle)
